FAQs Show

Q. What makes Payroll Giving so easy?

A. You only need to complete a single form to start your donation; everything else is done for you.

Q. Is Payroll Giving tax efficient?

A. Yes, your donation comes straight from your pay before income tax, which means the charity gets the benefit of the tax straight away. Example of how much a donation actually costs you:

Employee Pledges Cost to Standard
Rate Taxpayer
Cost to Higher
Rate Taxpayer
Cost to Super
Rate Taxpayer
£5.00 per month £4.00 £3.00 £2.75
£8.00 per month £6.40 £4.80 £4.40
£10.00 per month £8.00 £6.00 £5.50
£15.00 per month £12.00 £9.00 £8.25

Q. Can I give to more than one charity?

A. Yes, you can add several charities to this form and you can always complete a second form should you need to.

Q. What happens next?

A. Once deducted from your salary, your donation will be passed in full to the HM Revenue & Customs approved agency your employer is contracted with who is responsible for disbursing monies to the relevant beneficiaries per your instructions. At this stage, there is a small fee payable dependent on the agency (the agency receives this, not StC Payroll Giving - details available on request). In many cases your employer will cover the cost.

Q. Is it easy to cancel my donation?

A. Yes, just contact your payroll department and they will be happy to stop the deductions.

Q. What if I have more questions about my donation?

A. Call our team on 01227 361 960 or email

StC is paid by the charities who have asked it to promote Payroll Giving. If your donation is to one of these charities, StC is paid a one-off amount. These charities can be found on

We estimate that StC will be paid £700k in total by the charities who contract us to promote Payroll Giving in the course of this year.

We estimate that our work in this period will result in the recruitment of new Payroll Giving donors pledging over £14,500,000* to charities

If you choose to give to a charity with whom StC has not contracted to promote Payroll Giving, we will not receive any payment in relation to your donations but we will process the donation.

*based on an average donation period of 8.5 years. (Figs supplied by Payroll Giving Agency’s)
